Ranger Smith (Ranger John Francis Smith) was a former US Army soldier and a ranger for Jellystone Park. His relationship with Yogi Bear tends to be a friend/enemy combination based on what Yogi Bear's behavior. If Yogi Bear does his picnic basket stealing, then Ranger Smith's mood won't be a great one (usually he'd want to send Yogi to a zoo). If Yogi behaves himself, then Ranger Smith is usually in a good mood. He never suspects Boo Boo into doing anything bad as Ranger Smith knows Boo Boo is the well behaved bear.
